Overview
Categories help customers navigate your store by grouping related products together. Creating well-organised categories is one of the most important things you can do to improve the shopping experience.
How to Create a Category
- Go to Products > Categories in the left menu
- Click ADD NEW CATEGORY
- Enter the category name
- Optionally add a description
- Set the category URL (auto-generated from the name)
- If you have the Beautify Category extension active, add a category image
- Choose whether this is a main category or a sub-category
- Save the category
Main Categories vs Sub-Categories
- Main categories appear in your store's navigation menu
- Sub-categories are nested under main categories for more granular organisation
Assigning Products to a Category
After creating a category, you need to assign products to it. Go to the product edit page and select the appropriate category from the category options.
Keep category names short and descriptive. Use names that customers would naturally use when looking for products, not internal names or codes.
